Latest Updates from Our Project:

No Gnus is Good Gnus
almost 4 years ago – Wed, Jun 03, 2020 at 10:24:25 PM

Happy June, backers!

We might be showing our age a bit there, but the message stands: no g-news is good g-news!

We are in active production with The Siege of Luthadel expansion now, and there isn't much to report this time around. Here's the latest nitty gritty...

  • All materials are currently in the factory's hands. We're awaiting digital proofs, which will be followed by a physical proof to make sure everything looks perfect.
  • We're working with Liya's miniatures specialists to fine tune the Koloss & Vin figures, which is mostly about dialing nearly imperceptible facial and musculature details.
  • We landed on how the items will be laid out in the box, so work can begin on the plastic vacuum-formed tray. Here's a shot of the layout...

Reminder: BackerKit Open for Address Changes

Moved? Want to verify your current shipping address? No problem. Please visit the following page to request an email from BackerKit...

https://mistborn-house-war.backerkit.com/

We will keep the BackerKit open - for address verification only - until just before we ship, but we ask that everyone take a look at their pledge page if there's any chance your original address confirmation is incorrect. This will dramatically reduce the chance of an issue during fulfillment.

Current ETA Unchanged

Nothing has changed on this front, either. Our current (pessimistic) estimate puts delivery in Q4 - likely November. With luck, we may be able to shift that date forward, but we won't be able to say for sure for some time yet. We still have proofs and Dragonsteel's approval in front of us, and it's always possible a new surge or outbreak could wreak havoc with production or freight.

We will continue to update you monthly as we go.

Until next time, stay safe and Stay Crafty!

BackerKit Reopened! Please verify your address.
almost 4 years ago – Mon, May 11, 2020 at 11:58:24 PM

Greetings backers!

Apologies that this update is a little late. We were prepping quite a lot for the Siege of Luthadel expansion. We hope you'll be pleased with the results.

First and foremost, and at long last, The Siege of Luthadel expansion is going into production!

BackerKit Reopened

We know many of you have moved, or plan to move soon, or aren't sure if your address is correct. We've reopened the BackerKit so you can all review your addresses.

To get to your pledge page, please go here and request an email from the site...

https://mistborn-house-war.backerkit.com/

We will keep the BackerKit open - for address verification only - until just before we ship. We're at the very start of production, and that process usually takes 4 to 6 months, including freight. We're being a bit pessimistic about the timeline right now and calling it November - mainly because the pandemic has left so many parts of the process uncertain.

We will of course be updating you every step of the way - as we go through proofing and all the way through mass production and delivery. Updates will continue monthly, at least, until the product ships.

Something Looks Weird. What Should I Do?

If anything on your pledge page looks strange, please email us at [email protected].

There are a number of things we should mention up front, to cover common situations...

  • All orders that did not contain The Siege of Luthadel expansion have been marked Fulfilled.
  • $1 pledges that were never completed have been marked Canceled.
  • As of this update, there are 8 incomplete orders - for which payment was never made, usually because the charge was declined. We've sent a reminder to the email on file for each of these orders.

Where are all the Add-Ons?

All add-ons have been disabled on BackerKit except for The Siege of Luthadel expansion. Everything else, including the new items unlocked in our latest campaign, can be found in the Mistborn Metal Dice Pledge Manager. Click the image below to look through the options.

Important: The Mistborn Metal Dice pledge manager closes for orders on Friday 22-May. This is the last time we'll be offering the Kickstarter prices for most of these new items, and especially for the metal dice themselves. If you're after a set, or want to order anything else from that campaign, please click the pic above to secure your goodies.

Will There be a Public Pre-Order for The Siege of Luthadel?

Yes, but It won't happen for a little while yet. If you or anyone you know would like to be informed when the pre-order happens, we recommend our newsletter...

Crafty Games Newsletter

We'll announce the public pre-order there first. The newsletter is the best place in general for all news about our upcoming releases, Kickstarter campaigns, and pre-orders. We're also careful not to spam you. We average about one message a month.

What Else Can I Do Now?

We're really glad you asked!

First, if you have a free moment, we'd love for you to visit the Mistborn: House War and Siege of Luthadel pages over on BoardGameGeek. Click the heart in the black box up top to become a fan and leave a rating and review if you're inclined. Every star helps!

Things We Are NOT Looking For

  • Reorganization suggestions and other major revisions
  • New content

Deadline: We need all comments in by 17-May as the final rulebook will be sent to Liya next week.

Please DO NOT share this version of the rulebook with anyone. We will be uploading the finished rulebook to BoardGameGeek as soon as it's finalized. Until then, this is just for you, our loyal backers.

About those Minis...

Finally, we have a follow-up on the minis development, which we talked about in last month's update.

Liya has dialed the Vin & Koloss minis in now, and produced samples at scale that we've approved. The next time we see these will be in the production proof coming this summer. Until then, here's some behind-the-scenes shots from the factory...

That should do it for this month! We'll be back toward the end of May or beginning of June with the latest from Liya and the production run.

Until then, Stay Crafty!

Reports from China, and a bigger, badder koloss for your table
about 4 years ago – Thu, Apr 02, 2020 at 02:00:27 AM

Hello everyone,

We hope you're all safe and sound in this trying time, and that most of you are able to isolate to help flatten the curve.

  • To those of you who must venture out into the world to help combat the pandemic, our most special thanks to you! You are heroes, one and all.
  • To anyone who's struggling just now, or lost someone to COVID-19, our deepest condolences. We know it can't possibly soothe your pain in this dark time, but our hearts are with you.

Most of us have been isolating for nearly 3 weeks now. Everyone is healthy and safe, though the days are starting to blur together a bit. The lack of contact has been harder for some than others, but we all know this is the best thing we can do to support our fellow humans just now.

  • Alex is an extrovert, and he's trapped most days with two small children, so please send him your most supportive vibes, He can definitely use them!
  • Pat is just the opposite, an introverted hermit to his very core, so he's been training for this all his life. The same can't be said for everyone in his household, though, and sometimes he frets for their sanity.
  • Ed is based up in the Pacific Northwest, where the first outbreaks occurred, and so he's been holed up as best he can manage until things eventually settle down in the area.

None of us have been idle. We all keep daily working hours, and outside things being a lot quieter than usual our routines continue. Crafty Games has been a distributed company since it opened in 2005, and we're all well prepared and well equipped for remote work.

Siege of Luthadel Update

We're closing in on the production run, it seems. This is the latest from our manufacturing partner, Liya International...

- - -

We are happy to report that we are returning to work, and have now more than 80% of our original capacity in place and running.  We are very concerned about additional impact, and extra precautions have been imposed by the local government on returning to work, and extra safety measures are being employed with great success.

Liya International OEM Factory Update

  • Quoting, STL and Prototype Teams have all returned to work.
  • Tooling, Injection, Production, Painting and assembly teams are returning to capacity, and notification will be provided to your Project Manager. Do to reduced team size, STL Modifications may still take longer then usual.

Non OEM Projects

Several Cities like Shanghai, Beijing, Guangzhou and Chongqing are still locked down and have restricted travel. Orders containing Dice will still experience some limitation on a case by case basis. We will update each client when factories come online. Projects that we are working on in conjunction with other factories will see additional delays until the current issues in China are resolved.

Timing

We will continue to monitor the situation, and as information is made available, we will continue to update you on changes. We cannot predict any precise end to constraints placed on us, as we have no control over directions dictated by the local and national government. We look forward to returning to full production as soon as the situation warrants.

- - -

We are working daily with Liya to dial in all the remaining details for the expansion. Case in point...

Just How Big is that Koloss Pawn, Anyway?

We mentioned previously that the exact size of the koloss pawn would be decided just before manufacturing. We settled on that detail today, and want to share that process with you.

The process starts with the STL files designed by our digital sculptor, Thomas Lishman. We've shared outputs of those with you in previous updates. For a little more information about the STL file format, here's a great link with tons of related detail

These files must be adapted to the factory's needs. This produced the following images for our approval.

Original STL Above - Factory Revision Below
Original STL Above - Factory Revision Below

As you can see, there are few if any real changes to the pawns at this stage. In fact, the goal is to get through this step without any changes, but occasionally some aspect of the original figure doesn't work so well, either due to the factory's process or the limitations of the medium.

In this case, as we expected, everything went swimmingly, and we moved on to scaling...

Big Enough for Ya? It wasn't for us...

The koloss pawn was originally a little larger than the Steel Inquisitor from the base game, but we always knew we wanted it to be bigger. Claiming the koloss is a significant choice in the game, and we needed the physical experience to support that. It was also important that the koloss' presence be felt at all times in front of whomever owned it - both as a beacon to everyone else, and as a warning to the owner should a Rampage card enter play.

The image above was the factory's initial try at a larger koloss pawn - an increase of 25% over the original STL dimensions. We didn't think the pawn was quite imposing enough yet, and so we asked for another rescale. The factory came back with this...

Green is 150% of the original. Orange is 156% of the original.

The percentages listed under these koloss pawns are increases over the already embiggened size you see in the previous image. The choice was easy for us. We're going with the big ol' orange baddie you see on the right. For reference, the actual Vin, Kelsier, and Steel Inquisitor pawns are all to scale alongside him.

This fig should have a commanding presence on your table, don't you agree?

Neither Vin nor the Koloss will be these colors, of course. These are just mockups to call out the figs in the lineup. Both pawns will be gray PVC, just like the Kelsier and Steel Inquisitor pawns in the base game.

The increased size of the koloss pawn will require us to slightly increase the depth of the box. We're waiting on the new dimensions from the factory, and then we'll be moving on to finalizing other components from there.

That's all we have for this month's update. Until next time, please stay home if you can, be safe, and be kind to each other.

The latest info we have about COVID-19
about 4 years ago – Thu, Feb 27, 2020 at 06:54:26 PM

Hello backers,

Short update this month. We are still in a holding pattern with our manufacturer, Liya, which has provided us the following information.

* * *

Greetings to our customers and friends,

Update from manufacturing regarding the effects of the nCOV outbreak in China. The nCOV (2019 CoronaVirus) has affected family and friends throughout China, as such, the Factory will continue to be shut down until it is safe for team members to return to work. Extra precautions have been imposed by the local government on returning to work, and extra safety measures are being employed immediately.

Liya International OEM Factory Update

  • Quoting, STL and Prototype Teams have all returned to work this last week. Technical labor has begun working remotely and will continue to do so until travel restrictions have been lifted.
  • Tooling, Injection, Production, Painting and assembly teams are still on vacation. As each team returns and begins working, a notification will be provided to your Project Manager. Do to reduced team size, STL Modifications may take longer then usual.
  • TangXia Town where our factory is located is slowly coming back online and has less restrictions than other areas. Transportation restrictions and resource allocations are still in effect.

Non OEM Projects

Several Cities like Shanghai, Beijing, Guangzhou and Chongqing are still locked down and have restricted travel. Orders containing Dice are on hold until further notice.

As you can see, the news is better than many feared but there are still more unknowns than knowns. We will continue to update you as we know more.

Our Hearts Go Out to China
about 4 years ago – Mon, Feb 03, 2020 at 10:48:54 PM

Mainland China, and to a lesser extent surrounding territories, are currently besieged by the aggressive spread of the nCoV Coronavirus, which as of this update has infected at least 20,000 people and killed over 400. We've stayed in contact with our friends and partners in the region, and we wish there were more we could do for them. No one really knows how bad this will get, or how severe the effects will be on global supply chains. What we do know right now is that there will be delays.

Factories are closed at least another week and it may be longer. Even when staff returns, it's expected to be in stages with factories coming back online gradually rather than all at once. There will of course be backlog as a result.

We're working with Liya to determine how this will impact the Siege of Luthadel expansion. We're hopeful the delay will be minimal.

We don't expect to hear anything conclusive on this front for at least a couple weeks and perhaps longer. We promise to keep you updated as we go, but we want to stress something: we plan to be careful with the information we provide. It's very important to us that you feel you can count on us when we offer timetables, and if we feel an estimate is shaky, or if the situation is still in flux, we'll very likely hold off until we know more.

If you have a free moment, cast a kind thought or ten to China. They could really use them right now.
