Latest Updates from Our Project:

Card Creator Contest
over 5 years ago – Thu, Aug 16, 2018 at 01:41:20 AM

We're running a contest!

Beginning today and running through 12-Sep, we're running a contest to win a little something that is included in no copies of the game. What? How can that be, you ask? Well...

As a gift to Brandon Sanderson for letting us continue to play in his sandbox, we made him a special Personality card. Outside a few copies we kept for our own copies of the game, we gave the entire run of the card to Brandon so he could hand them out as he liked. We hear he was handing them out at Gen Con 2017 and that he's been doing so at various events since.

What's the card? We're glad you asked...

.

Through means we're sure are similar to a Crew planning a heist from one of the Great Noble Houses, one of our backers wound up with a few copies of this elusive card that he doesn't need. He asked us to use them to do something special for all of you, and together we came up with this contest.

How Do You Enter?

Simple. Just create cards and make them available through the general marketplace at DriveThruCards. That is, make sure they're visible when someone clicks on the Browse Community Created Cards section.

Come back here and post a separate link for each card you want to enter for the contest.

Every card made available through the marketplace and linked to from here as of 12-Sep is eligible.

How Do You Win?

Hoid can only visit 4 of you. Traveling from game to game is very tiring for him, and he has a lot to do elsewhere in the Cosmere. Each of these 4 winners will be chosen differently...

  • One will be chosen by the game's designer, Kevin Wilson.
  • One will be chosen by the game's developer, Alex Flagg.
  • One will be chosen by the game's art director and editor, Patrick Kapera.
  • The last will be chosen by YOU!

The first three are pretty self-explanatory, but we should explain further about the last one. Once links are posted here, if you like one of them, simply repost the link with a "+1" post from your Kickstarter account. Only backers can post to this thread, so only backers will be voting on that last prize.

Please ONLY POST ONCE FOR EACH LINK, and please ONLY INCLUDE ONE LINK IN EACH POST. This will help us tally things easily at the end of the month.

We will be ignoring ALL posts from any user who doesn't follow these instructions.

Shortly after 12-Sep, we'll count up the valid +1s for each link, and the card with the highest number will win the fourth Hoid card. In the event of a tie, Kevin, Alex, and Pat will confer to choose a winner from those tied.

Please Note: It may take a couple weeks after the deadline for us to announce all the winners. All our schedules are particularly crowded, but Kevin in particular asked for some extra time on this.

The winners will be contacted through the Kickstarter messaging system with instructions. More than likely, that will be as simple as "Please send us your mailing address at [email address], and we'll get your card in the mail!"

We could bury this post in legalese now but we're all adults and we doubt this contest is vulnerable to a lot of the crazy that makes all that necessary, so let's get on with creating some cards!

Cheers,

Card Creator is Live & Siege of Luthadel is Nearing Beta
almost 6 years ago – Tue, Jun 26, 2018 at 01:05:40 AM

Hello everyone,

Despite the quiet here, we've been chugging along nicely at Crafty HQ and we have some great news to share. First up, a release many of you have been asking about...

The Mistborn: House War Card Creator is live! Click this banner to check it out!
The Mistborn: House War Card Creator is live! Click this banner to check it out!

Mistborn: House War Card Creator

Just released in partnership with our friends over at DriveThruCards, this tool lets you build your own Personality & Problem cards for Mistborn: House War, then order them as actual printed cards to use in your game! You can even offer your creations on the open DriveThruCards marketplace, so other players can enjoy them, too.

Extensive tooltips walk you through the process, and we've also scripted a Design Guidelines file you can access via a link inside the creator. This file contains tons of useful information about the process, from coming up with strong concepts to devising balanced effects to choosing appropriate resource costs and Favor rewards.

We've also sampled quite a bit of art from the published game to get things rolling, though you're encouraged to bring your own illustrations into the mix as well. Just be sure you have the right to use whatever you upload!

Thanks to your generous support during the campaign, we are offering the Mistborn: House War Card Creator to everyone, everywhere. You can reach it at the following link or by clicking the banner above.

Siege of Luthadel Update

Meanwhile, work continues on the next chapter for Mistborn: House War: the Siege of Luthadel expansion. As we mentioned back at the start of May, development of the expansion has been a bit more involved than we'd originally hoped. This sometimes happens with game design - it happens a lot more than we designers like to admit, really - and it's more common with projects announced when they're at such an early stage, as this expansion was when we decided late in the campaign to make it a stretch goal.

Fortunately, going back to the drawing board can lead to a much stronger product, and that's exactly what's happened here. We now have a really exciting playtest candidate that's getting close to beta, which we believe solves most of the issues we ran into with previous iterations. The expansion is still set during Book 2 of the original Mistborn trilogy, and the action still shifts toward the siege of the capital city, as planned. The biggest change has been to the side board, which is now called the "Vin board" for reasons that will become clear once you see it in action.

We expect to have a rough of the current playtest candidate ready sometime next month (July), and at that point it will go into blind playtesting. For those who don't know, this is the very necessary stage of testing in which the expansion is played without us there, so we can see how well it holds up in the wild. We call this version a "rough" because all the core mechanics will be in place, but some language may still need massaging and there will certainly be card interaction issues. Plus the art won't be included as we rarely order art before all the core mechanisms and components are final.

Art direction will begin in earnest alongside blind playtesting, and hopefully sometime after Gen Con we should have a print-and-play we can share with all of you. That version should be much cleaner, and it should contain most if not all of the art, but we'll have to see how the next couple months go before we can say for sure.

We will keep you posted as things progress, but with Gen Con coming up fast it may not be until mid-August before we post another full update.

Once again, thank you all for helping us make this game a reality, and for supporting our continuing efforts to bring the Mistborn world to life at your game tables.

Happy gaming, and Stay Crafty!

International Fulfillment Update (all shipping complete)
about 6 years ago – Tue, Jan 30, 2018 at 09:49:08 PM

Hello fellow denizens of the Final Empire!

We mentioned in the Comments last week that all base game packages - that is, all physical products except the Siege of Luthadel expansion - have shipped. Huzzah!

There are two reasons we held off posting a full update when we confirmed the last of the packages had gone out.

1. We wanted to establish with our fulfillment partners when you can expect your packages to arrive. We'll cover this in more detail below.

2. We wanted the greatest chance that tracking numbers would arrive before this update. Due to the processes employed by our international fulfillment partners, tracking numbers sometimes arrive after packages are shipped.

PLEASE NOTE: Due to various restrictions, many international shipments cannot be tracked. This is unfortunate, but it also means that not having a tracking number is not an indication that something has gone wrong with your delivery.

How do I know if something has gone wrong with my delivery?

First, don't panic if you have not yet received your package.

Grab your towel. It's gonna be OK.
Grab your towel. It's gonna be OK.

Please read the following and mark your calendar. If you have not received your package by the date listed below, THEN we ask that you contact our customer service team at [email protected]

Canada: By now all Canadian packages should have arrived. If yours has not, then something has gone wrong.

Australia: 09-Feb

Everywhere Else (including New Zealand): 23-Feb

This date is the earliest you should contact customer service about a missing package. Before that, the answer will almost certainly be "Let's wait until that date and see if the package arrives first."

What if my package has not arrived by the date above?

Email [email protected]. This email goes to everyone here at Crafty Games, but most importantly it goes to the folks at Gamerati, who are managing fulfillment for this campaign. Your contact will likely be Joey, and he can walk through the process with the international fulfillment partner sending your package to see what happened.

What if something is missing or damaged?

Email [email protected]. We are happy to replace any damaged or lost items. We do ask that you send pictures of any damaged items, as well the package they were shipped in. This helps us follow up with our fulfillment and shipping partners to reduce the chance of it happening again in the future.

Why the change from contacting our partners directly?

In previous updates we asked you to directly contact the partner shipping to your region. Now we are asking that all shipping, damage, lost item, and other customer service issues be sent to [email protected]

Shipping & damage issues have thankfully been rare, but as they've cropped up and backers have reached out across multiple channels it's become increasingly difficult to track what's been addressed and what hasn't.

To ensure that all issues receive the simplest and most direct support, we've decided to centralize all customer service through one email address that reaches everyone.

Gamerati is also heading up communication with our international partners, and so they're best positioned to resolve concerns as quickly and efficiently as possible.

We apologize for the confusion on this. It's a byproduct of developing the system as we go, which is more the case with Kickstarter than with traditional projects.

A reminder: Check your shipping box carefully.

Because multiple items are included in many packages, and because some of these items are small, please double-check your package for all contents before throwing away the box and packing material. For example, Retail Edition backers should look closely for the House Bylerum pack, which can easily shift around in transit.

I want to order more stuff but I live outside the United States.

Those of you living outside the U.S. and wanting to order accessories for your copy of Mistborn: House War, or in fact any of our products, will find that our webstore does not currently support international shipping. This is a temporary condition, but we won't be able to take those orders for a few weeks yet, perhaps a little longer.

The process of fulfilling regular direct orders is very different than fulfilling a Kickstarter, and we didn't focus as much on that side of things until all pledge rewards were out the door. Now that they are, we're working with all three international partners to set up regular direct order fulfillment, and that process is not yet complete. We aren't comfortable taking new orders until it is.

If you would like to be alerted when our webstore opens for regular international orders, please subscribe to our newsletter. We will likely be announcing that international orders are live in an upcoming email sent to the list.

Our games are offered worldwide and we're happy to help match stores with a local distributor. Any stores or distributors wanting information about our games can email us at [email protected].

What's Next?

Now that the campaign is fully shipped and remaining issues will be handled one-on-one, we will be posting updates less frequently for a while. We will post when the card creator is ready for backer review, and then as Siege of Luthadel reaches certain important milestones.

Siege updates won't start for a few months at least, so please forgive us if things go quiet here through the spring and early summer. We need to hunker down and focus on the end run for Siege, and most of that isn't anything that's fit for public consumption.

Thank you again for all your support! We couldn't ask for a more awesome tribe of backers! Stay Crafty!

International Fulfillment Update (packages are going out this week and next!)
over 6 years ago – Tue, Jan 09, 2018 at 10:07:56 PM

Hey everyone!

To quote our favorite alcoholic, chain-smoking robot, "We're back, baby!"

I see boxes, boxes everywhere!
I see boxes, boxes everywhere!

Christmas and New Years were a wecome break for everyone, and we came back recharged and ready to go. Our highest priority this year, obviously, is delivering the remainder of Mistborn: House War!

We've heard back from both AetherWorks & Happyshops with updates on the remainder of fulfillment. This is Rumor Control. Here are the Facts.

AetherWorks (Australia & New Zealand)

Here's what we've been told by AetherWorks just this morning...

"We are anticipating that we will start processing and shipping next week. We will send an email to the backers to let them know we are handling the project, and will post updates on our Facebook page as it proceeds.

"When packages start sending, Australian backers will get a tracking number sent automatically from the AusPost system when the parcel is logged into their system and ready for pickup.

"New Zealand backers have to be sent out manually, so there will be a delay of a day or two at the most for them getting the alert.

"We send out the parcels as they are prepared, so there should be a flow of parcels going out. We don’t package them up and save them all to go out in one giant shipment."

Happyshops (Everywhere Else)

We've been corresponding with Happyshops since their return yesterday and they have also explained what we should expect. Like AetherWorks, Happyshops will be sending out the packages as they're ready, so don't fret if you don't see a tracking number immediately. You will be emailed with a tracking number as your pledge rewards are sent out. Packages are going out every day until everything is sent.

Happyshops also alerted us to a small mistake they made with the first 14 packages. In those cases no replacement punchboards were included in the shipment. Happyshops has already corrected the mistake and sent out a second package to each affected backer, so if you're one of these folks you will receive two packages (and two tracking numbers) instead of one.

Whitelisting Email Addresses

If your pledge rewards are being fulfilled by Happyshops, please whitelist the following email address to make sure your tracking number doesn't wind up in your spam folder.

[email protected]

We have asked AetherWorks for the same but we didn't want to delay this update, so we will post their fulfillment email address in the Comments below when we receive it. Please check back in the next couple days so you can whitelist the AW address before they start sending out packages.

Or you can just whitelist everything from "*@aetherworks.com.au" or "*@happyshops.com". That works, too. :)

The Next Update

Barring any unexpected information we need to get out to everyone, the next update will probably let you know that all packages have gone out from both fulfillment partners. Hopefully by then we will also be able to provide a worst case scenario delivery date, for those of you in locations where packages take the longest to arrive.

We'll pad this date by a little to allow for shipping weirdness and the result will be the cut-off point at which - if you do not yet have your pledge rewards - it's time to follow up and see what happened.

Check Your Shipping Box Carefully

Because multiple items are included in many packages, and because some of these items are small, please double-check your package for all contents before throwing away the box and packing material. For example, Retail Edition backers should look closely for the House Bylerum pack, which can easily shift around in transit.

Reporting an Issue

As always, if anything is missing or damaged when you receive your pledge rewards, please email us at [email protected]. Please include pictures of any damage to your items and the packaging. We are happy to provide replacement parts for any missing or damaged components.

Help Us Get the Word Out!

We cannot thank you enough. Without each of you we never could have made this project a reality, and now - because of you - Mistborn: House War is out there on game tables and in game stores all over the world. It's incredible what can happen when 3,500 people have a singular vision for something. We're humbled and awed by your faith, generosity, and support in realizing our vision for this game.

If you're as excited about this project coming to life as we are, we encourage you to share your thoughts with the world. There are many places you can do this...

More than anything else, it's HUGELY helpful for our supporters to make their voices heard on BoardGameGeek. If you only have time to help out in one place, please make it BGG...
