$265K Smashed! Here’s *Another* Surprise Stretch Goal – Plus A Secret In the Mist!?
almost 8 years ago – Tue, Jul 19, 2016 at 11:53:01 PM

OK, seriously. You guys are AWESOME

We’ve just burnt through $265,000 in funding, with no sign of stopping soon, so we’ve reached deeper into our bag of tricks for a few more cool goodies to add as we sprint toward the end of the campaign!

First up is another fun Personality I’ve been noodling for a while, and am excited to see in the House War – the Con Artist!

Apologies for the black-and-white art – we’ve had to raid the Mistborn Adventure Game for this image!

This devious character has an appropriately dastardly mechanic – allowing you to scam your fellow Houses out of favor!

Play when you solve or help solve a Problem, before Favor is awarded.

You gain all Favor from solving this Problem. All other agreements made during this deal are unaffected.

While this card still needs to be playtested a bit more, the Con Artist is supposed work sort of like an “anti-Obligator,” allowing you to change the terms of a deal and steal all the Favor for yourself at the last second. Be wary, however, that playing this ne’er-do-well is not likely go unpunished by your fellow Houses for long…

If we reach $280,000, we will complete, playtest, and add the Con Artist to every copy of Mistborn: House War for free! Let’s do this!

A Shadow in the Mist…

In the spirit of there always being another secret…we’ve also cooked up an awesome little stretch goal, which we’re not quite ready to reveal just yet. Perhaps the mists will part when we get to $280k? Let’s find out!

There'a always another secret...

More Problems details + More Foil Cards!
almost 8 years ago – Tue, Jul 19, 2016 at 06:05:17 AM

The campaign is steaming on into its last 5 days, and while the pace has got us feeling we’ve been subject to some serious koloss head-munching, we wanted to share a few more details about the More Problems stretch goal…and a few free bonuses to boot!

At $225,000, this stretch goal will add 6 more Problems to the deck, featuring even more pivotal events and characters than those found in the current Problems deck. Currently this includes 2 Problems focusing on important events in the The Final Empire

  • The Eleventh Metal, a threatening and mysterious force in the hands of the Final Empire’s enemies; and
  • Attack on the Pits of Hathsin, the heart of the Final Empire’s atium production
… and 4 Problems to add more fan-favorite characters from the books:

  • Marsh, Kelsier’s brother and former leader of the skaa rebellion;
  • Yeden, current leader of the skaa rebellion;
  • Lord Renoux, a nobleman who throws in with Kelsier’s scheme;
  • and Captain Demoux, a promising young rebel soldier.

What’s more, once this stretch goal unlocks, we will also add 4 more foil cards (one for each new character Problem) to all Prestige Backer and All-In Pledges, as well as Foil Card add-on sets, for free! That’s 50% more the foil content for all backers at these levels.

And finally, since we’ve added more cards to the base set, if this stretch goal funds we will also increase the number of landscape / horizontal premium card sleeves by 25 (from 50 to 75) – enough to accommodate all 6 of these new Problems, all foil cards, plus a few extra for replacements of split or damaged sleeves. Like the additional foil cards, these extra sleeves will be provided at no additional cost to backers!

We’re really excited to see this goal unlocked, and then to move onward to the next great story in the Mistborn storyline…the Siege of Luthadel!

Mistborn: House War’s first supplement: The Siege of Luthadel!
almost 8 years ago – Mon, Jul 18, 2016 at 08:07:32 AM

Hello backers! Mistborn: House War is almost fully realized and we have YOU to thank for it!

Seeing this game not only funded but developed at the very highest standard we could have hoped for has been an amazing, joyful ride for Alex, Pat, and Ed. We want to thank you so much for your support in making this dream project a reality for us, and for Mistborn fans around the world.

Many of you have been wondering aloud what’s next for Mistborn: House War. Is the core game all you’ll see for this part of our game line? We are very happy to say that it’s not! Not at all...

Announcing Mistborn: The Siege of Luthadel!

mock-up only (not actual cover)
mock-up only (not actual cover)

Please Note: This supplement is still in development and all details remain subject to change and final approval by Dragonsteel Entertainment.

“Elend felt the ash dust his face and clothing, but he ignored it. In the distance, the bloody red sun was close to setting. It backlit the army that had come to take Elend's kingdom from him...”

The fall of the Lord Ruler is not the end for the Houses of Luthadel. Rather, it is the beginning of a whole new world, where fancy balls and courtly intrigue give way to wars of kings, social upheaval, and political strife. Amid the chaos, strange new beings rise at the fringes of society — hordes of rampaging koloss, eerie mist-spirits, and strange shape-shifting kandra... threatening the whole of civilization!

Much like Mistborn: House War follows the narrative of the first Mistborn novel, The Final Empire, The Siege of Luthadel details the trials and tribulations faced by the nobility during the events of Mistborn: The Well of Ascension. The players are leaders of the Houses left standing following the Final Empire’s collapse, and they must navigate the perils of dangerous new times. Their negotiations continue, but now there is another balance of power to consider...

This supplement’s major addition is the Siege, which divides players into two “teams:” one consisting of the Houses besieging Luthadel, and the other consisting of those defending it. The progress of the siege is represented on the Siege Track, a sideboard that imparts benefits to those on one side of the walls and new challenges to those on the other. Conditions on the Siege Track change regularly through the game, as certain Problems are solved or erupt.

Your choice of sides also changes how you’re affected by various Problems: whether you can take control of the koloss or the Skaa Assembly, for example, and how ready certain Personalities are to cooperate with you. Houses can change loyalties throughout the game as they maneuver for the greatest advantage, and this adds a whole new layer of intrigue and politicking to the Mistborn: House War!

Gameplay remains the same as in the core game, with players collaborating to solve Problems, gain Favor, and control (or manipulate) Unrest. When this expansion is used, the game ends when the Battle for Luthadel Problem card is solved or erupts, or when Unrest reaches 8, but there’s an additional twist! Only the highest or lowest score from the winning “team” can win the game. This gives players a reason to cooperate and collaborate, in addition to just “being on the right side of history” as the game comes to a close.

The Siege of Luthadel will also include revised and updated Problem and Personality decks, along with new House sheets to represent the thrilling events and storyline of The Well of Ascension. Now players can...

  • ...face and solve issues like Spirits in the Mist, Koloss at the Walls, and Chaos in the Assembly.
  • ...employ Personalities like Spies, Oracles, and even named characters from the second Mistborn novel!
  • ...command the power of Houses Cett or Penrod, or new forms of old Houses like Lekal or Venture.

These new decks and Houses are designed to be easily swapped in and out with those in Mistborn: House War but for a true-to-the-novel experience you can play them right out of the box. The ways and effects of mixing and matching to make your own perfect story is one of the team’s primary focuses as the design comes together.

Speaking of design, we are also excited to announce that...

The Siege of Luthadel will be designed by Mistborn: House War designer Kevin Wilson!

We’re thrilled that Kevin’s continuing with the project, and look forward to all the amazing things he cooks up for this new chapter of Mistborn: House War.

Ready to Pick Your Side?

To secure your copy of The Siege of Luthadel, simply increase your pledge by $30 per copy you want to receive. As with all Add-Ons, you’ll be able to identify what you want via our pledge manager after the campaign is over.

For example, if you’re already a Prestige Backer with no other Add-Ons and want one copy of The Siege of Luthadel, increase your pledge from $100 to $130.

The Siege of Luthadel is currently estimated to release in Fall 2017. Backers will be able to choose whether they receive the expansion in a separate shipment later, or delay their core game delivery to save on shipping. Once again this will all be handled in the pledge manager.

Thank you, dear backers, for your support. We could never have made it this far without you!

New Problems
almost 8 years ago – Fri, Jul 15, 2016 at 03:45:56 PM

Mistborn: House War originally came with 60 Personality cards. Thanks to your support, we've added two more Named Personalities for each of the Noble Houses.

The Problem cards had a problem with that. They were feeling left out, so...

When we reach $225,000 we'll add six new Problem cards to the 50 already included in Mistborn: House War.

In addition, we'll add 25 more landscape sleeves to the Mistborn Card Sleeves packs. This means there will be 75 landscape sleeves and 100 portrait sleeves.
